We are growing, carefully and on purpose. We do not post a job every time we get busy, but we are always looking for the right people, and when we meet one we tend to find a seat for them.
Matson Signature Builders is a family-owned licensed general contractor (ROC 336562) in Surprise, Arizona. We are deliberately growing from an owner-operated shop into a small, capable team, and we are always interested in meeting the right people, whether or not a specific seat is open that week. Where we are going
A company worth being part of, built slowly on purpose
Danny and Jessica have run this company themselves for six years. Every estimate, every job site, every phone call. That is the reason the work is good, and it is also the ceiling we have hit.
So we are growing. Not by taking every job that comes along and hiring whoever is available to cover it, which is how most contractors grow and how most of them end up with the reputation they have. We are doing it the slow way: adding one right person at a time, and only when we can bring them into work that is already running properly.
That means we will sometimes tell a very good candidate that the timing is not there yet. It also means that when we do bring somebody on, the seat is real, the work is steady, and nobody is being hired to plug a hole.
What the growth is for. The goal is not to be the biggest builder in the West Valley. It is to build a company that runs well enough to do excellent work without burning out the people doing it, and that generates enough to fund what Danny and Jessica actually care about outside of it. Who fits here
What we are actually looking for
We are not going to list requirements in years of experience. We have hired people with twenty years who did not last and people with three who turned out to be exactly right. This is what we are really screening for.
Character before craft
Skill is teachable and we are happy to teach it. Honesty, reliability and how somebody treats people are not things we can install, so those are what we screen for first.
People who finish
The last ten percent of a job is the least glamorous and the most revealing. We want people who care as much about the punch list as the framing.
People who speak up
If something is wrong, we want to hear it from you on day one, not discover it at the walkthrough. Nobody here gets in trouble for raising a problem early.
People who own it
We do not blame the last guy, the supplier or the weather. We say what happened, we fix it, and we move on.
People who want to grow
We are building a company with more seats in it than it has today. If you want to end up running work rather than only doing it, say so and we will talk about what that path looks like.
Everyone here is measured against the same core values the owners signed. Answer your phone. Communicate often. Show up. Own your mistakes and never blame anybody else. Leave every home cleaner than you found it. Do not cut corners. Treat every employee and subcontractor with respect. Do what you said you would do.

What the work looks like
Small company, real projects
The work is high-end residential across Surprise and the wider Valley: custom homes, RV garages, casitas, additions, whole-home remodels, kitchens and baths. Project values run from the mid five figures well into seven.
Because the company is small, nobody is stuck doing one narrow thing forever. You will see a job from the first walk to the final punch list, and you will meet the homeowner rather than hearing about them second-hand.
You will also have the owners' phone numbers. There is no layer between you and the people who make the decisions, which cuts both ways: you get heard, and you are accountable.

Subcontractors, we want to meet you
Most of our trade work goes to specialists we have used for years, and that is how we like it. A tile setter who sets tile every day of his life does better work than a generalist who does it occasionally.
We are still adding to the bench. If you are licensed with the Arizona ROC, bonded and insured, and you show up when you said you would, send us your information.
What working with us looks like: scopes defined in writing, no surprise scope creep, and we pay on time. We have been on the wrong end of that ourselves and we do not pass it along.
